Katrina Katrina - Questions the press is avoiding!
I want to use this post to present questions not being asked by our press about hurricane Katrina.
Who ordered the Coast Gaurd to withhold the fuel, after they had just told Jefferson Parish to come get it?
Why were orders given to FEMA to cut the emergency communication lines in Jefferson Parish on September 3?
Jefferson Parish President Aaron Broussard
MR. BROUSSARD: ...
Let me give you just three quick examples. We had Wal-Mart deliver three trucks of water, trailer trucks of water. FEMA turned them back. They said we didn't need them. This was a week ago. FEMA--we had 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel on a Coast Guard vessel docked in my parish. The Coast Guard said, "Come get the fuel right away." When we got there with our trucks, they got a word. "FEMA says don't give you the fuel." Yesterday--yesterday--FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. They cut them without notice. Our sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in, he reconnects the line. He posts armed guards on our line and says, "No one is getting near these lines." Sheriff Harry Lee said that if America--American government would have responded like Wal-Mart has responded, we wouldn't be in this crisis.
But I want to thank Governor Blanco for all she's done and all her leadership. She sent in the National Guard. I just repaired a breach on my side of the 17th Street canal that the secretary didn't foresee, a 300-foot breach. I just completed it yesterday with convoys of National Guard and local parish workers and levee board people. It took us two and a half days working 24/7. I just closed it.

he New York Times once again the framer of record
http://nytimes.com/2005/09/09/national/nationalspecial/09military.html?ei=5094&en=29839ee3ffe8c2ba&hp=&ex=1126238400&adxnnl=1&partner=homepage&pagewanted=print&adxnnlx=1126238047-S23bBqnAG4ioB3hyOwxpUA
To seize control of the mission, Mr. Bush would have had to invoke the Insurrection Act, which allows the president in times of unrest to command active-duty forces into the states to perform law enforcement duties.
"While troops can conduct relief missions without the legal authority of the Insurrection Act, Pentagon and military officials say that no active-duty forces could have been sent into the chaos of New Orleans on Wednesday or Thursday without confronting law-and-order challenges."
Looks like they needed a little law and disorder, like the propaganda that was so widely reported in our free anything but "dead bodies" press. In the end, the hype reported was hardly worth the coverage it got; especially over the pain and suffering being had by the overwhelming majority of our fellow citizens abandoned by our lovely corporate controlled Government. We saw frames defining credibility such as looters and takers; maybe they thought we wouldn't see the color coding.
then comes the spin.
"Can you imagine how it would have been perceived if a president of the United States of one party had pre-emptively taken from the female governor of another party the command and control of her forces, unless the security situation made it completely clear that she was unable to effectively execute her command authority and that lawlessness was the inevitable result?" asked one senior administration official, who spoke anonymously because the talks were confidential.
Here they go again flip flopping making it about one of their old standby issues “Is a woman good enough”. She fucking put Bush in his place, and this guy (meaning me) has the lack of ego and enough respect for people to see when someone does a great job; you go lady. The frame: Was she good enough? You know this is all suggestive garbage they shovel for distraction right?
Then they talk about all the problems that frame fault away from the untouchable gay-waving frat-boy cheerleader who has a website devoted to his overtly strange obsession with the word fabulous. It's all a distraction, that keeps you away from what went wrong.
There is another tidbit for the bullshit highlight reel:
The federal government rewrote its national emergency response plan after the Sept. 11 attacks, but it relied on local officials to manage any crisis in its opening days.
Did you get that? They said DHS fucked up without admitting it, when they rewrote the plan to manage an emergency after Bush's first big failure to respond. These smart guys gave themselves a pretty wide birth of time to respond. Something they obviously utilized in this operation in order to manage the perception of chaos. The chaos wasn’t caused by a lack of security it was caused by the effect of the devastation and those responsible neglected to pay attention to the nuance; somewhere the president has repeatedly said he doesn’t like to get lost. Well that dislike just killed many Americans.
Instead of framing it why don't I just quote my thesaurus at dictionary.com, Negligence the word is found as entries in the following list of words.
disregard, fault, forgetfulness, indifference, injustice, lapse, laziness, malpractice, neglect, violation,
One of those is what happened in this debacle, and now the author of this crap printed in the "Paper of Record" wants to start playing media musical chairs with this reality and who it belongs too at the end of the day.
It would have worked too if they had not been caught playing the advocate of the chaos. You know the frames of "we didn't know who had control so we couldn't accept help". 10 days later the squishy looking fruity-boy that never answers jackshit states "It was always the presidents responsibility" after being asked "Who was ultimately responsible?" enough that you stopped hearing the question. Timelines show the presidents merry men turning away food, medicine, and hundreds of rescue workers; because they didn’t know their boss was in charge. Can you tell me how that is anyone’s fault but the frat-boy who wanted to grow up to be “Commander in Chief”?
